Halloween!

This year for Halloween Jeff dressed up as Harry Potter and I was Hermione. I am a little bummed that I didn't get a picture of our entire costumes so you could see how the capes turned out! (remember the black mysterious sewing project from last week?) I think we will dress up again just to take the pictures!For Halloween we went to our stake's Trunk or Treat. We had a really good time. Here is our car all decorated.

We had a lot of fun at the trunk or treat. We'll definitly do it again. My pumpkin was by far the crowd's favorite!

Pumpkin Carving

Three years ago, Jeff and I were dating, it was Halloween night, and we took a break from studying to carve pumpkins together. I remember sitting on the kitchen floor of Jeff's appartment, hands covered in pumpkin innards, and thinking this is it! This is the guy I want to be with forever! Now, three years later, we continue our favorite Halloween tradition.

We Heart Texas

Jeff here, with a very exciting bulletin! Yes, Gary Larson has done it once again. He is never afraid to report the truth, and I think we have all wondered whether our favorite Texas pride song was true. But here are the facts, and they stand for all the world to read. The stars are bigger and brighter deep in the heart of Texas. If only there were a way to prove whether the sage in bloom really is like perfume here in Texas.

I saw this outstanding bit of news thumb tacked to a bulletin board at Baylor several weeks ago. I thought for sure that I would be able to find a copy on the Internet, but I could not find it anywhere. So because of the importance of getting this information out to our loyal blog readers, Angela and I devised a plan to snatch the far side without anyone noticing. Everyday at lunch time, we walk down this hall, so this past week as we went we made sure to notice all the cameras that survey the bulletin board. Luckily the bulletin board is slightly blocked by a turn in the hallway so that the end of the bulletin board with the far side is not visible. This means that if we could remove it without being noticed we could replace it without any camera noticing its disappearance. I planned to stand with my back toward the camera as if reading a research article and quickly slip the far side into my spiral. Then I would continue down the hall to Angela's office. Angela's office unfortunately does not have a scanner, because Baylor is very afraid of scanners for obvious reasons. I mean imagine all the conniving med students who want to illegally scan 10 year-old far sides for their own mischievous purposes if scanners were readily available at their institution. Luckily, we realized that we could use the copier in her office, and later scan the copy at home and then post it online. (In the words of Albus Dumbledore "My brain surprises even me sometimes." (Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone p. 300)) Angela approved of the plan, but emphasized that she would not be around when the actual snatching occurred.

In the pre-lunch lull on October 23, I casually made my way toward Angela's office. When I reached the bulletin board, I looked curiously over the articles and posted on it. Then I paused with my back toward the camera to read over an article close to the far side. I looked down the hall to make sure no one was approaching. Then I deftly removed the thumbtacks. As I was slipping the far side into my spiral, the door next to bulletin board swung open! I thought I had been detected, but the girl that came out of the door seemed only startled that I was standing right by her door and did not notice the missing far side. I ignored her and continued with my package in hand. The operation went smoothly in Angela's office. Her fellow co-workers were unsuspecting of innocent-looking Angela. The far side remained in the spiral for the duration of lunch, since Angela would not allow me to replace it while she was around. Then when I returned from lunch, I glanced over the same article, replaced the thumbtacks in the far side, making sure to slip their points through the pre-existing thumbtack holes. I then nonchalantly resumed my way back to my lounge to study.
In summary, at great personal risk we have posted this illicit bulletin for our loyal blog readers. Use the facts disclosed within it wisely. Many would have Texans appear as having false pride, or be seen as foolish traditionalists who sing silly songs filled with lies. But Hamakers will always be here to put the facts out on the table.

Autumn Activites

Welcome to my kitchen! Please ignore the scrub bottoms and slippers and let me show you what we have been doing this past month.

I made this cute Halloween banner out of felt, inspired by Chet and Dot I think my ghost is cuter than hers!

I am also in the process of making costumes for Jeff and myself. My sewing machine and crafties have taken over the dinning room table. I'm about 50% finished with the costumes. What will they be you ask? You will just have to wait and see.

Jeff looks like this pretty much every single day. In this picture, he's studying for his big test that will be next Tuesday.and did you see this pretty item? I feel in love with this Ottoman at the store last week and had to have it. I have been looking for something that would effectively hide all of Jeff's school stuff, but still be easily accessible.

I am realizing from these picture that there is a LOT of beige happening in my house. No worries, Jeff and I are moving in less than a month, then we can PAINT! yes! I'm talking BOLD colors! (hence the neutral furniture- bought to be an accent color against the bold colors on the wall).

Sprucin' up the appartment

I visited my family in Utah over conference weekend and everyone told me they were disappointed I had stopped writing on our blog. So I committed to write more frequently. I know this is a boring post to start with, but I really don't have much else to write about! A few weeks ago I bought a new bedspread, sheets, and bed skirt. I have been dreaming for years of owning a beautiful white bedspread. I will probably regret this since white is so easily stained, but it is so PRETTY!
I have also been dreaming of the day when I could own sheets over 200-count (Don't laugh at my silly, frivolous dreams). I was ecstatic when I found these beauties... I was very particular about the color. I wanted a teal that was more grey-blue than green-blue, AND these were 500-count. AH! the luxury of sleeping in 500-count sheets! (again, don't laugh)

I even found this pillow that matches perfectly! it's not even the same company, isn't that crazy?
